Media Area Girls Softball remembers beloved coach with fundraiser for ACS
Media Area Girls Softball
(MAGS) lost a long-time friend and beloved coach, Michael Ferguson, last
winter.
Many knew Mr. Ferg as the ever
present photographer at the fall clinics, many, many Slow Pitch games, All
Star games, Fast Pitch games and Winterball – even when his team or daughters
weren't playing. He was everyone’s fan.
Mr. Ferg also coached for ten
years, assisted in many MAGS Winterball clinics, every field clean-up day and
in countless other ways. He was known all around Media as someone to go to when
help was needed with any worthwhile event.
Inspired by his selflessness
and good cheer, Mr. Ferg's former players and other Media Softball alumnae
recently played a game at Barrall Field in Media. Girls from Ferguson's teams from 2004 through 2012
played along with other former MAGS players. The game served as a fundraiser
for the Rose Tree Media Relay for Life (yet another event where Mike would
help).
More than 25 former MAGS
players helped raise several hundred dollars for the Media Real Estate
Softball Relay team that participated in
the Relay for Life held recently at Penncrest
High School to benefit
the American Cancer Society (ACS).
All the players wore identical
Media Softball shirts, with a tribute to Mike on the back, as did many parents
and other MAGS alumni. May of the shirts can be seen around Media and some
will wear them in the ACS Philadelphia Bike-a-thon in July.
To contribute to the cause, look
for the team on the ACS website www.relayforlife.org/ and search
for “Fightin' for Ferg.”

Marple Township Little League 8-year-old tournament team wins division championship
The Marple
Township Little League 8-year-old tournament team recently won the Division Championship
of the 2013 Newtown-Edgmont Tournament by defeating South
Marple in seven innings. The final score was 6-5.
The game was played over two days due to rain delays. At the time the
game was suspended on day one due to rain it was the top of the 4th and
MTLL was down 0-5. MTLL launched a dramatic comeback in a hard fought
game that went into extra innings. Both teams played well.

Storm wins the 2013 Haverford Township Softball League championship
Congratulations
to the Storm for their Championship in the 2013 Haverford Township Softball
League's spring season. Head coach Mike Romano's team defeated the Cyclone, 9-3,
in the second game of the championship round to win the title.
Strong
pitching from Christina Young and three runs in the first and second innings
led the way for the Storm, who rebounded from a loss to the Cyclone in the
first game of the championship round to force a deciding game.
Abbey
Romano and Kyra Harvey both went 2-for-3, with 2 RBIs each as the Storm's ace
Christina Young went the distance, in defeating the Cyclone, 9-3. Casey
Rafferty, Lindsay Moran and Amira Gallagher each scored twice, and all played
well in the field. The Cyclone finished the playoff season playing seven games,
an HTSL record, they were led by Julia Spadaro, Erin Gerard and Jessica
Epstein.
The
Storm was also led by Gianna Truax and Megan Luke defensively. The remaining
Storm players also contributed, Allie Muscella (1 hit), Brianna Marmorstein,
Booch Truax, Faylyn Mefford.
The
game ended the spring HTSL season. Still playing are the Del Val teams, which
are aiming for success in the playoffs.
Stay
tuned to http://www.htsoftball.org/ for information regarding the Fall Season,
which we anticipate will start in late August or early September.
