Media Area Girls Softball remembers beloved coach with fundraiser for ACS
Media Area Girls Softball
(MAGS) lost a long-time friend and beloved coach, Michael Ferguson, last
winter.
Many knew Mr. Ferg as the ever
present photographer at the fall clinics, many, many Slow Pitch games, All
Star games, Fast Pitch games and Winterball – even when his team or daughters
weren't playing. He was everyone’s fan.
Mr. Ferg also coached for ten
years, assisted in many MAGS Winterball clinics, every field clean-up day and
in countless other ways. He was known all around Media as someone to go to when
help was needed with any worthwhile event.
Inspired by his selflessness
and good cheer, Mr. Ferg's former players and other Media Softball alumnae
recently played a game at Barrall Field in Media. Girls from Ferguson's teams from 2004 through 2012
played along with other former MAGS players. The game served as a fundraiser
for the Rose Tree Media Relay for Life (yet another event where Mike would
help).
More than 25 former MAGS
players helped raise several hundred dollars for the Media Real Estate
Softball Relay team that participated in
the Relay for Life held recently at Penncrest
High School to benefit
the American Cancer Society (ACS).
All the players wore identical
Media Softball shirts, with a tribute to Mike on the back, as did many parents
and other MAGS alumni. May of the shirts can be seen around Media and some
will wear them in the ACS Philadelphia Bike-a-thon in July.
To contribute to the cause, look
for the team on the ACS website www.relayforlife.org/ and search
for “Fightin' for Ferg.”

with Mrs. Ann Ferguson, daughter Becky, and umpire Chuck Ellis.
