Maddock Team are champs of Springfield Men's Bowling League


The champs for the 51st season of the Springfield Men’s Bowling League, with a score of 2162, was the Maddock Team. Team members Ernie Riesenfeld, team captain, Gene Conboy, Jim Dougherty and Tom Young received USBC Championship Emblems and money at the annual banquet and awards night. The league is currently seeking new members. Bowling takes place 9:30 p.m., Thursday nights, at Sproul Lanes. Call 610-544-5358 for information.

Hilltop U10 and U12 teams win Del Val championship

The U10 and U12 Hilltop Hurricanes recently won the Del Val championship. This marks the third year in a row these teams have won the Del Val tournament title.

Billy Mock Golf Outing at Edgmet Country Club

A golf outing to benefit The Billy Mock Foundation will be held Thursday, Oct. 6 at Edgmont Country Club. The day will begin with a shotgun start at 12 p.m., culminating with a dinner and auction at 6 p.m.

Billy Mock was a dynamic young boy who fought a courageous battle with brain cancer, touching thousands of lives until his death at the young age of 13 in 2007. The Mock Foundation, set up by Billy’s family and friends, awards numerous educational grants and financial support to families in need and sponsors a unique “Pay It Forward” program.

U11 Cheetahs win Ridley United Soccer Invitational

The U11 Rose Tree Cheetahs recently took first place in the Ridley United Invitational Soccer tournament. After earning two victories in their bracket, 4-0 and 6-0, the Cheetahs had their work cut out for them in the finals. Despite a constant downpour for most of the game, the Cheetahs kept their composure and scored in the final minute of the game to win the championship, 3-2.

Springfield’s 11U Blue Storm takes Ripken Mid-Atlantic Title

The Springfield 11U Blue Storm capped off a successful season by capturing the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regional Title last week in Waynesboro, Pa.
After losing the opening game 1-0 to suffer its first shutout in three years, the Blue Storm rallied back to win six straight games over state champions and runners up from New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, including an impressive payback win against Medford N.J who handed the Blue Storm their only defeat of the tournament.
Decisive victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals earned them a trip against fellow District 1 competitor Hilltop from Havertown. A hard fought battle ensured a great game to be watched by all with Springfield emerging on top with a 5-2 victory.
The Blue Storm’s season included championships at the Aston Middletown and Chichester Tournaments. They team also captured its third straight Cal Ripken District 1 Championship and its second straight Cal Ripken Pennsylvania State Championship, going undefeated in both for two straight years and capped it off with the Cap Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions.
Over the past two seasons, the 11U Blue Storm has complied an impressive 81-7-3 record.

'Red' team wins annual Media Softball Intermediate Division All Star game



The Red team had players from Donnelly Concrete, Foxwood & Christie Orthodontics, Hagan Funeral Home and Produce Junction.
The Yellow team was made up of girls from Bondurant Plumbing & Heating, Foxwood & Christie Orthodontics, Front Street Fountain and Media 5 Mile Run

For the Red, Paige Purnell, hit a grand slam and was awarded a game ball by her coaches.
Rebecca Powell and Shannon Kelly were both 2-2, scoring twice.
Erin Gilligan, was 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
Caroline Shafer, Danielle Heller, Kailey Martin and Samantha Martin were all 2-3, with an RBI each.
Erika Rosenbloom was 1-2, with a walk. Jenna Goddard was 1-1, with 2 walks.
Amanda Allen, Claudia Fadgen, Christina Defelice and Savannah Harmon all went 1-3.

For the Yellow Team, Taylor DeMarcantonio was 2-2, including 2 doubles and was given the game ball for her team.
Kaitlyn Herron went 3-3, with an RBI.. Sheila Malone was 1-2, with a walk.
Jessica Davis and Rachel Kent were both 2-3. Rachel also scored once.
Hannah Farkas, Lea Hart, Leah Hill, Cali Holber, Kelly Long, and Samantha Taddei were all 1-3

The Yellow team opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with 2 runs. The Red team scored once in the bottom of the fourth. Next, the Yellow team scored 4 runs in the top of the fifth.
The Yellow team's lead was short-lived with the Red team scoring 7 in the bottom of that inning and again in the bottom of the 6th inning.
The Yellow team scored again in the top of the seventh inninng, but it was not enough.
The final score was 15-7 in favor of the Red team.

The Red team had players from Apollo Pizza, Credit Mediators, Media Police Association and Rosemont Pharmacy Stars.
The Yellow team was made up of girls from Marcia's Hair Salon, Media 5 Mile Run, Pinocchios' Pizza and Welsh Subaru

For the Red, Aurora DiFranco hit a single and a triple to go 2-3. She was awarded a game ball by her coaches. Margaret Howe-Consiglio, Mya Humphries and Rebecca Friedmann were all 2-3.
Madison Ruggieri, Lauren Magnarelli and Nikole Koenig all went 2-2. Brianna Dunn was 1-2. along with Sara Grassi who had a triple and a walk.
Alexis Calloway and Sarah Jane Whittemore went 1-3. Sara Myers-Maloney had a walk and a rbi.

For the Yellow Team, Sophie Roe was 3-3, including 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, winning the game ball for her team. Carly D'Ambrosio, Elizabeth Fyfe and Sydni Page-Williams all went 2-3.
Kylie Chelo went 2-2, including a double and 2 runs scored. Morgan King and Julie Santangelo both were 1-2 with a run scored.
Sarah Hughes was 1-1, 2 walks, run scored. Gianna Saulino went 1-2, 2 walks, and 2 runs scored.
Kirsa Emmons and Maddie Sitley were both 1-2, Maddie also had a RBI. Sydney Born was 1-3.


In the top of the first inning, the Yellow team scored 5 runs. The Red team answered back with 5 runs in the next two innings.
The Yellow team broke the tie with 4 runs, but the Red team countered with 5. Going into the lsst inning, the score was 9-8 for the Red team.
But the Yellow team took the lead for good with 5 more runs. The Red team's rallied, scoring twice, but they fell short. The final score was 14-12 in favor of Yellow
