Media Youth Wrestling honors athletes at annual awards banquet
It was over 15 years ago that Media Youth Wrestling was founded in 1997 and has blossomed into something that know one could have imagined. The club is for wrestlers K-8.
This was a great year for MYW. We had our largest team ever
with 87 wrestlers on the roster. Our goal is to see that number grow to as many
as 120.
We currently split the team into two groups. This allows us
to accommodate the different levels of experience that our wrestlers have. We
have an Advanced group of more experienced wrestlers and a Novice group that
teaches the first and second year kids. Next year we are looking to expand and
add an Intermediate practice for the wrestlers whose skill level is above
novice but not quite ready for the advanced room.
Coaches Bear Resnick, Chuck Malloy and Neil Davis run the novice
practices on Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Springton Lake M.S.
wrestling room.
Coaches Ron Frank, Sean Orr and Mark Walsh run the Advanced
practices on Tues and Thurs from 6-8 p.m. at Penncrest H.S.
This past season saw the Media Novice group win the
Haverford Novice Tournament Team championship which is a great accomplishment
for our young grapplers.
The Advanced wrestlers also had a great year and placed ninth
out of 40 teams in the Inter-County Wrestling League Championships.
The season culminated with over to 200 proud parents and
wrestlers at the Annual MYW Awards Banquet, held at the Oak's Ballroom in
Glenolden. The highlight of the banquet was the announcement of the Ternove Award
Winner, which is given each year to the Most Valuable Wrestler. Hank Ternove
presents the award each year to one deserving wrestler. This year’s award
winner was Christian Reed.
