SFA junior varsity teams shuts out St. Katherine's

The St. Francis of Assisi (SFA) fifth- and sixth-grade football team raised their record to 2-0 by shutting out St. Katherine 22-0 at Church Road Field on another gorgeous Saturday afternoon.
Nicky Kutufaris returned the opening kickoff 30 yards, and then accounted for all 40 yards of the four play scoring drive, culminating in a 25-yard dash around end. Mike Conran booted the extra point and SFA was quickly on top 8-0.
Conran then returned a punt 35 yards to give SFA good field position at the fifteen yard line. Three plays later Kutufaris darted four yards around end for the score. The extra point attempt failed and SFA led at the end of the half 14-0.
SFA tacked on their final touchdown in the third quarter by driving 52 yards in eight plays. Cole Dumont gained thirty yards during the drive, and bulled in from a yard out for the touchdown. Conran once again kicked the extra point and the scoring was completed at 22-0.
Linemen Patrick Devine, Justin Shields, Derek Strain, Alex Smith, Tommy Kutufaris, Adam Klein and Luke Sprague controlled the line of scrimmage the entire game.
SFA’s defense throttled St. Katherine’s, allowing only two first downs and 22 total yards enroute to recording their second shutout of the year. Leading tacklers were Shields, Strain, Klein, T. Kutufaris, Dumont, N. Kutufaris, Sprague, Conran and Liam McKnight.
SFA will host St. Joseph’s of Aston on Saturday at noon at Church Road Field.
