IceWork's Women's hockey team The Blackballs returns to IceLine for summer hockey action

On Thursday, July 15, Ice Line in West Chester, Pa kicked off the Women’s Summer 4-on-4 Ice Hockey League. Four Women’s teams will compete in an 8-game season, with post season play-offs and championship. The Blackballs plan to defend their championship status as they face three other local teams, the Concord Flames, the Radnor Mighty Mouse and Ice Line’s own White Lightning.

Four-on-four hockey is played on a standard regulation size NHL rink but with 2 defenders, 2 forwards and a goalie instead of 2 defenders, 3 forwards and a goalie. Without the additional forward, the strategy, pace and puck movement on the ice totally changes the game, resulting in more skating with the puck than passing. The pace of the game is fast and intense, with little stoppage in play.

The Blackballs started the new season on solid ground as they defeated the White Lightening 8-3. The Flames beat the Mighty Mouse 13 – 1. The Blackballs will face the Flames next, on Thursday, July 22 at 9 pm.

The Blackballs, sporting a black 8-ball on their silver jerseys are an independent team entry comprised of players from several teams across the tri-state area. The members of the team include: Amy Christinzio, Aubrey Piechoski, Jackie Grimes, Katie Keeports, Linda Tasione, Margie Sullivan-Rogowski, Maureen Sharon, Rocki Rocco, Sharon Addison, Caitlin Barbakoff, Maddie Weeks, Judy Sokol, Karen Shull, Kate Selna and Patty Gray.

The Blackballs will also be playing in the Summer Sizzler Tournament at Ice Works in Aston the weekend of August 7th and 8th.
