SAA 10 Blue Team takes state title

Springfield AA 10-Blue teammates are (front row) Justin Eckard, Michael Conran, Jason Estep, Layne Kelly and Zach Chevalier. Back row: David Bingaman, Cole Dumont, Jared Morris, Cam Thorpe, Chris DiRenzo, Jeff Houtmann and Nicky Kutufaris.
Springfield AA 10 U Blue Team became just the second team in SAA history to bring home a State title. 10-Blue went undefeated through the PA State tournament, raising their 2010 tournament record to a stunning 23-2, including four championships. On their way to the State title, 10-Blue had to beat powerhouse Unionville twice in addition to beating last year’s runner-up, BYC.
Their defining moment came in the second game of the State tournament versus Upper Makefield. Trailing Upper Makefield 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter, 10-Blue embarked on their most incredible come-back of the season, scoring four runs (all still with two outs) to tie the game in the sixth and adding one more in the eighth inning to win the game, 7-6.
10-Blue followed that inspirational win with solid wins over Central Perk and Doylestown en route to their championship showdown with Unionville. In the Championship game, Unionville jumped out to a 2-0 lead and for the fifth time in the tournament, 10-Blue overcame an early deficit and eventually put the game away with a 10-2 victory.
Next up for 10-Blue is the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic tournament in Buffalo, N.Y. where they will face other State winners from Maryland, New York, Delaware and New Jersey. Good luck 10-Blue!
