Villanova student /Newtown Square native expected to be drafted by MLB

Four 4 Villanova baseball players are expected to be taken in this year’s MLB draft. Seniors Justin Benchko OF (third team Big east) and Brian Strielein RHP, Juniors Mike Franciscco LHP (Newtown Square, PA) and Mat Sczur are expected to be drafted after exceptional careers with the Wildcats.

Mike Francisco (Malvern Prep, Newtown Square, Pa) led the bullpen with 7 saves, zero blown saves and led the team in era and WHIP. In 25 appearances Francisco pitched 26 innings with 38 SOs and 12 BBs a recorded a 2-2 record. Batters hit .230 against him. He has moved into 5th place all-time for Villanova in saves. The 6’5” fire baller throws in the low to mid 90’s and has received interest from all 32 teams.
