World Class Martial Arts Students going to the 2011 AAU Taekwondo Nationals


Twelve students of World Class Martial Arts in Holmes recently competed at the AAU Taekwondo District Championships in Mays Landing, NJ on April 2nd. The following competitors placed in the top three of their divisions and have earned a spot to compete in the 2011 AAU Taekwondo National Championships:

Strath Haven Ice Hockey offering introductory youth clinic

Strath Haven Ice Hockey will once again be sponsoring a low cost introductory clinic for children who are residents of Wallingford - Swarthmore School District. Join us Sundays, May 15 and 22 and June 5 & 12 at 4:15. All clinics are at Iceworks, Aston on rink 2. Each clinic is only $10 (ask us about our Strath Haven High School student cost). Ice hockey helmet, skates, stick, and gloves are necessary. We have gear for participates to borrow if you contact us prior to the clinic.

Interboro successful at Del Val swim championships


The Interboro High School 200 free style relay team recently took first place at the Del Valey swimming championships held at Widener University. The winning team (seen above, from left) are Chris Mansi, Kevin Bradley, Ryan Tambon, and Justin Eckert.

Springfield Sports notices for April 18

Parent Meeting For SHS Football
A meeting for the parents of any current eight-grade boy interested in playing football for Springfield High School next year (2011 season) will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at Audion B in the high school.
This is an informative meeting to discuss the freshman football program, as well as the overall team and camp information. The freshman team coaches and the SHS Football Boosters will be present at the meeting.
Meeting For SHS Ice Hockey Incoming Freshmen
The Springfield High School ice hockey team is holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in Audion B for all 2011-2012 incoming ninth graders.
Those interested in playing for the team are encouraged to attend, as well as their parents.

Springfield Country Club Swim Team Registration
The Springfield Country Club swim team registration nifor the ummer swim team will be on Tuesday, April 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Springfield Township Building (next to the library). This is for both new and current SCC swim team members.
The team swimsuit will be available to purchase. Call Donna McGann at 610-328-7022 with any questions.
Springfield/Morton Boys’ Summer
Basketball League Registration
Springfield High School boys’ basketball coach Kevin McCormick will again be directing the Springfield Boys’ Summer Basketball League at Powell Road Park behind the library. The league will start June 5 and run through July 28.
The Junior League is for boys entering third or fourth grade in September. The Intermediate League is for boys entering fifth or sixth grade in September. The Senior League is for boys entering seventh or eighth grade in September.
Games will be played Monday through Thursday evenings with tip-off times of 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
Teams must have 10-12 players on their roster. League fee is $40 per player. Those interested in submitting teams, contact Kevin McCormick for player registration forms and rosters at 610-328-3947 or via email at sixks2001@yahoo.com.

Free softball coaching clinic

A free coaching clinic will be held by Joe Spina, president of Chaos Girls Softball and head coach of the 18U Gold team at Clayton Park softball field on Saturday, May 14 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The park is located on Route 322. The entrance is on Garnet Mine Road.
The goal of the clinic is to assist area coaches by showing various catching, throwing, and hitting drills. Current players on Spina’s team will be there to participate in the workout in order to visualize how the drill should look.
There will also be discussions on coaching philosophy, how to run a travel team, as well as other topics related to girls’ softball.

Springfield's Brian Iannuzzi sparks Drexel baseball

Sophomore Brian Iannuzzi of Drexel University and a 2009 Springfield High School graduate was named National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) player of the week.
Iannuzzi’s production out of the leadoff spot helped lead Drexel to three big conference wins. In three games, Iannuzzi went six for 10 with a double, five RBIs, seven runs, four walks and three stolen bases.

Sproul Lanes Bumper Bowling champs


The first place team for the Saturday afternoon bumper bowling league at Sproul Lanes consists of Joseph Montanaro, Joseph Wilding, Cole Mirigliano and Tommy Banes, with coach Chuck Ellis.

Springfield Elementary Blue are Champs


Springfield Blue hockey team beat Penncrest on March 30, 5 - 4 in a very close game.
